Storytelling

Everyone has a story

It’s true. Everyone really does have a story. Stories are powerful ways to communicate. Jesus knew that people would feel drawn to him because he really knew them, understood them and could lead them. His parables continue to teach us about God’s wisdom, faithfulness and compassion.

I use stories to connect God and His people. Many of the stories that I share come from life lessons that I’m learning and relearning. Growing up, I enjoyed watching Lucille Ball and Carol Burnett. I learned a lot through their laughter and songs. Here are some of the stories that I like to share:

Blindfolded in a Bumper Car: Even when everything seems to be going smoothly, there are bumps along the way. Often, we are caught by surprise. Our true tests of faith happen when we least expect them. God’s presence remains regardless of our circumstances.

Miracle at Midnight at the 7Eleven: It simply amazes me when I think of how God answers prayer. No matter the outcome, He will supply our needs. I can laugh about the whole event now. But, I can also marvel at how God demonstrates his care for each of us.

One wet Cordova: and something about Gideon The whole thing started with a conversation about prayer. Do our prayers to God really change things? Is God just up there to encourage us and comfort us? What’s all this about moving mountains? Well, I didn’t live near any mountains. But, God showed his incredible power with my 4 door sedan and a little rainfall.

Guarding Pearls: I hate to admit it, but I still trust too easily. Now that I’m a wife and mom, I’ve learned a little more about using caution with God’s gifts. This life lesson continues to remind me that being careful with God’s treasures doesn’t have to mean being selfish.

You’ve Lost that Loving Feeling: Like all long lasting relationships, our feelings toward God go through changes. When the romance fades, some people give up. Ooh! How they miss the whole point. God calls us to a covenant relationship with him. Here’s what to do when others call it quits.

How to Stop Flying By the Seat of Your Pants: Are you tired of just sliding through life? Do you find yourself pretty lucky and wonder why? Regardless of our faithfulness, God keeps his promises. If you want to find a little peace, encouragement and teamwork in your family, tune in.

Known by Name-While I was in my 20s, I drifted away from my family, my church and yes, God. I was confused, angry, restless, lonely, and curious. It was during this time that I named myself “The Roaming Catholic.” After doing absolutely nothing with relationships, I went on a journey. I visited all kinds of churches. I read. I was saved. Then, I was saved again (yeah, I was even confused about that, too). I ended up on more church rolls than I can name. But, I still didn’t find my resting place. It wasn’t until I slipped into the back of a church, miles away from anyone who knew me that I was known by name. One person’s welcome changed my whole life. Maybe you’re looking for that, too.
