No place like home

Did you ever watch the movie, “The Wizard of Oz” Listed as one of my all time favorites, it came to my mind this morning. I found myself whispering Dorothy’s classic line, “There’s no place like home”

As I opened my blinds to the day, I felt so blessed. The sun was gently shining through the trees in our yard. Everything and everyone was just starting to yawn and awake. What a incredible peace.

Moments like these are precious. My life is too busy. I run errands, run my son to basketball, run after the dog, run to work and run right through my life. Days become blurry. Time at home is filled with tasks. My eyes constantly check my watch. I keep promising myself to change, to slow down. But, at the end of the week, I still find that I have been rushing through again. Arggh!

So right now, I’m going to stop and soak it all in.

In Hosea 11:4, 11, the prophet writes about God’s love for his people, Israel. “I led them with cords of human kindness, with ties of love; I lifted the yoke from their neck and bent down to feed them. I will settle them in their homes, declares the Lord.”

In the movie, “The Wizard of Oz” Dorothy’s goal is to get home. While it looks enticing to stay in Oz, she yearns for her family. You want to take her there yourself. Maybe you even want to go back with her.

Busyness and moaning about each day, running ragged and mumbling are not going to draw anyone to Christ. No one is going to yearn for Jesus because we constantly gripe. In fact, many will try to avoid us. Last time that I checked, none of the major networks have started to air, “Woe is Me, My life is a burden.”

People will want to know more about our heavenly home when they see how much we treasure our life right here on Earth. Our actions are our witness. If others see how well we enjoy any and all of the peace among the predicaments, they will be drawn.

So, today, I am going to settle in my home. Many things have to be done. I still have a busy schedule. But I am going to choose to soak in the moments along the way. There’s no place like home.

    Hi Lisa,
I enjoyed your article in the Covington News yesterday. I, too, am a teacher, beginning my 30th year of teaching kindergarten in Rockdale County. Even though I’ve done this for so many years, I am still nervous and fearful of what this year may hold. We have a new principal and the list of things we have to get done, the meetings we have to attend each week, the forms we must complete, the testing….it is just overwhelming, isn’t it? Thank you for calming me down and helping to see that God is over all of this, and His plan is much bigger and better than mine. Have a great year! Susan (from Covington)
